Any sports fan that hasn't been under a rock for two weeks will have heard about the gun-toting, terroristic -threatening, moron Arenas proved to be when he decided it would be a good idea to bring guns to work and lay them out for a teammate (Javaris Crittenton) to pick which one to be shot by.
The Washington Wizards have decided to move on as if he never existed, removing his name and likeness from the Verizon Center and turning what signs used to call "Gilbert's Arena" into a place you would be hard pressed to find any trace of the now former star.
I'm personally glad the Wizards have taken the hard line away from Arenas. The last thing they need is someone like him representing their franchise and the nation's capital.
But seriously, how stupid can you be? It has been discussed on sports radio, TV, in newspapers, and around water coolers all over the country, and the prevailing opinion seems to be that Arenas may one day regain his eligibility to play in the NBA, but his reputation has been irreparably damaged.
For a guy with 111 million reasons to play basketball and be a good example, Arenas may have cost himself his livelihood and his relevance in one fell swoop.
ESPN is reporting that the Wizards may have a hard time voiding Arenas contract (ex. Latrell Sprewell chokes P.J. Carlesimo and Golden State loses in their suit to recoup contract money ) but just the fact that NBA Commissioner David Stern has suspended him indefinitely means his season is most likely over.
Here's to hoping a guy like Arenas doesn't get yet another chance to soil the NBA with his idiocy and that Stern will clean up the mess by booting him from the league for good...
